Pollution by Nidaa Rabah

Pollution

Pollution is one of the biggest problems in the world today. It is being linked to some of the diseases today (such as different types of cancers and lung diseases).
In order to control pollution one should be able to define it and pin point its causes.

Definition and types

“Pollution is when something is added to the environment that is harmful or poisonous to people, animal, and other living things”.
There are several types of pollution:

  • Air pollution
  • Water pollution
  • Noise pollution
  • Soil pollution

Air Pollution

Air pollution is the presence of harmful gases (example: carbon dioxide, Sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide and carbon) in the air. These are caused by factories, cars, burning of chemical products….
To reduce air pollution, toxic fumes produced by factories should be controlled and toxin should be reduced by recycling of products. Car usage should be reduced by having a well-established and organized public transportation such as buses and metros.

Water pollution

Water pollution is the presence of harmful materials in water, such as sewage, dissolved metals, and waste from factories and spilled oil from tankers. There is also fertilizers that dissolve in the water.
All these harmful substances harm water living organisms and are transmitted to people and other living organism through food and drinking water.
To limit this type of pollution governments should be able to have a well-developed sewage system that won’t get into drinking water, a higher control over factories to treat well their wastes before dumping them into specified areas in the environment, and a control over the type of fertilizers used in plantation.

Noise pollution

Noise pollution is the unwanted sound in the atmosphere such as sound of cars, loud speakers, and generators. This type of pollution can cause a lot of discomfort to people causing them lack of sleep and relaxation thus becoming sick and tired.
To reduce noise pollution, factories should be build outside or away from living areas, generators should be controlled and maintained to reduce their noise and people should respect each others comfort.

Dancing by Thalia Tabbara

                               Dancing
Dancing is my passion ever since I was young. I dance hip hop, ballet and contemporary. I love it!! Specially when I use point shoes for ballet, it makes me feel like I can do anything. When I dance, nothing else is on my mind. When the day of the competition arrives, you put everything you have learned about dancing over the years, and show it to the hundreds of people watching you. No matter how exhausted you are on the dance floor, you may not give up. You need to dance until the very end, until you are the best dancer you can be. I love dancing and I just wanted to share with you how I feel about it.
